New Yorkers take notice.

If you ever find yourself on 5th Avenue near the Met, and you see a pair of flags – one for the European Union and the other for France – take a step inside that building. Chances are you’ve arrived at Albertine, a bookstore “making French books available across the US.” You won’t regret your time inside this place, although your wallet might. And their plush leather furniture will occupy your time even if you’re just “browsing.” But mostly it’s a reminder that in NYC – to spoof a local expression – If You See an Open Door, Go Inside. You might find a sculpture, hundreds of years-old books, amazing ceiling fixtures, or zodiac murals. Or even just a book to buy (or in my case, three).
