The recently un-earthed “oldest footage” of New York City (that means all five boroughs people) includes shots of the construction of the Queensboro Bridge, apparently shot from the east side of Roosevelt Island (then Blackwell’s Island) looking west, showing the bridge pillars planted on the island that you can spot so easily now in Google Maps earth-view:

And if you think, “Yeah, but, meh,” then you’re not paying attention. This really is the best (looking) bridge in NYC.
