Begun at Dames Making Games Toronto’s Feb Fatale game jam, Femmepocalypse is a simple game that provokes some complex thoughts, about gender directly but also the notion of “dress-up.”

Gamers love customizing their avatars and with Femmepocalypse the process of customization is a project unto itself. Built by game designer Alto Punk, the interface to control the feature switching in the gender-ambiguous face on-screen is interacted with through a MaKey MaKey attached to some touch sensor pads connected to the features to be switched through.

In short turning this:

Whatever helps the player relate to that character, then that’s the gender.
