steelworks poster

as if it isn’t already conflicting enough going to Chelsea for exhibition openings, where one (as in me) is surrounded by bougie types and people of a distinctly higher class who have (nor want) no relation to the world I live in or come from, then to stumble upon a poster advertising condos and lofts in Williamsburg (hipster heaven) for prices starting in the $560k range, and that for only a studio (not even a 1 bedroom!). it’s sickening, and maddening! to add insult to injury the poster proclaims, “THEY WORK HARDER, SO YOU CAN LIVE BETTER” with sepia-tone images of a welder next to a lady reminiscent of Elizabeth Gurley Flynn circa the end of the Paterson Silk Strike of 1913.

They, the anonymous Us. As in Me. Normal. and You. Whoever. We Work Harder So They Can Live Better.

FUCK THEM.

it’s disgusting when capitalism can be so frank, so in-your-face-and-not-give-a-shit, and society is so complacent, so happy. well as long as a couple million people up top are happy! but are they really? Frankly I like working, and struggling. It forces one to think. But if society isn’t already divided enough, I don’t want it shoved in my face, plastered onto billboards in my city. Every square foot – of floor, wall, side of building, subway platform – here is real estate, another opportunity to sell you something ‘so you can live better’. It’s a bloody joke people, Handcrafted Living. BOLLOCKS!

Learn how to set a screw into a piece of wood you wankers. I join one thing to another and call it art, and I call you wankers. Wankers.
