As the hotel wave continues to de-fabricate the Long Island City landscape, NewYork.com ran with this hotel guide that includes a snapshot of the LIC condo-shoreline next to the headline title, “Budget Travelers.” Of course this image-text juxtaposition is entirely misleading, as those towers are not budget hotels with “skyline views of Manhattan” but a semi-segregated and insular neighborhood of condominium towers only erected in the last few years (LIC on the other hand was consolidated in 1870).

Which is just weird. Typically the ‘budget hotels’ are located in Queensbridge, Dutch Kills, and other sub-neighborhoods of LIC. And the ‘skyline views’ from those hotels are actually quite nice. But instead the image used is taken from a pier at the Gantry State Park, looking back at LIC’s condo towers, sending completely mixed messages.
