Cinzia Cremona just emailed me to let me know this Friday, 5 January, at the Anthology Film Archives is the opening for the Analogue film series, “PIONEERING ARTISTS’ VIDEO FROM THE UK, CANADA AND POLAND (1968-88)“. I never got to know Cinzia but we went to college together; she’s good friends with Deborah Hirst and Claire Deniau whom I did befriend in college, so that means she’s good people! Her partner Chris was involved with the UK selection; the AFA website lists the screening as:
Through a series of five one-hour screenings of extracts and short works, the touring event ANALOGUE aims to illuminate the early histories of artists’ video, linking the work of artists in the UK, Canada and Poland in order to broaden an understanding of how, in the course of thirty years, a versatile and politically charged medium made the transition from the margins to the mainstream of contemporary practice.
The Canadian program has been selected by Lisa Steele and Peggy Gale at V-Tape Toronto, the UK program by Catherine Elwes and Dr. Chris Meigh-Andrews of The Electronic and Digital Art Unit, Preston, and the Polish work by Dr. Lukasz Ronduda at the Centre for Contemporary Art, Warsaw.
An illustrated catalogue edited by Catherine Elwes and Chris Meigh-Andrews will be available.
