This guy rocks my forging world! Anyone know how to get ahold of him? He should be in World Maker Faire! Guess I might have to make a trip to Central Park soon, track him down.

NYC still has some incredible raw infrastructure, it’s not all glossed over and made into hip chic neighborhoods. However that’s what the plan is, actually. But for now the Sunnyside Yard sits exposed, and this year marks its 100th anniversary! One of my favorite areas of the city, of the borough, this yard is just down the block and across a bridge, and I visit it often.

seen on Jay Street in downtown Brooklyn, this mosaic clearly comes from a time of yore, maybe before “technology” was really what we know if it today, in terms of HD video, capacitive touchscreens, and widgets-everything. Still, it’s kinda cute (actually, it’s totally awesome!).

No matter how crazy this city gets, it’s never worth leaving else you’ll miss scenes like this! I didn’t notice until I dumped these photos onto my computer that the two sets of window lights went on in the second frame while they were off in the first (I normally take at least two or three shots of the same photo to get one that is most-steady and framed the way I like, but in this case they make a wonderful GIF) – which also makes one realize that behind each of those windows, in every building, someone lives or works there.
Gotham is FULL of lives.

Jeff Koons sculpture Green Diamond (2004) was bought for a reported $12 million recently, and now it adorns the penthouse terrace of an Upper East Side building:

Meanwhile, below the streets, the MTA plans on cutting 360 maintenance and managerial jobs by 2010 including subway car cleaners and station cleaners.
and lastly, no recession is complete without a diamond-encrusted remote-controlled lamborghini neck chain piece. POW:
