It’s that time of year again! And the fine folks from Swimming Cities – who won “Best in Show” at last year’s World Maker Faire – are so close to their goal, raising money for their Ocean of Blood project. They’ve just last week packed a 40′ shipping container with their hand-welded pontoon boats – “sculptural watercraft” – and sent it en route to Farrukhabad in India. That’s paid for. Now they just need to raise money for themselves – so they can actually get there, receive the container, and float their boat down the Ganges River! There are so many wonderful people involved with this project – and so many artists who have donated work for their silent auction – which opens this Saturday and runs for 1 week at Gallery 151 on the Bowery. I’ll be at the opening – and I made this piece, “Now You See Me, Now You Don’t” (below), specifically for this auction. It’s a light-based motion-sensor dummy camera, covered in flock camo, wall-mounted, with a giant red blinking light! It’s “dummy art”.
