new frames

bought a new pair of eyeglass frames today. going to have prescription glass put in them tomorrow. I don’t have an optrician, but got a good recommendation from Fabulous Fannies, the place I bought these frames from. I haven’t been to an eye doctor in, well going on 6 years now. Why so long? I definitely have needed an update. But I guess I’ve just procrastinated because it really hasn’t been a necessity until lately. For starters, a few months ago I started having headaches, which I don’t normally have. And then I noticed they started coming on more regularly. After a while, I attributed this to the fact that around the same time the headaches started, my current frames severly broke, and I modded them up by gluing everything back in place using hot glue and some funky silicone putty. This made for good conversation, but occasionally it also gave me some massive head clogs (the glass out of alignment).

Then this past weekend there was a moment at the Russian baths when a small plastic bit on the underside of my current frames broke off and disappeared in the steam-mist of the Turkish steam room. Snap, gone. It was a timely loss, really.

And these frames are a completely different dance. Less square, more acute, a lot thinner and perhaps most-importantly to me, they’re not black. I was looking for some color. Sure these aren’t a drastic leap: the majority of the frame are a dark amber, with some honeycomb highlight on top, and some translucence inside the arms, but even so they sit a lot lighter, both aesthetically and physically since they feel an ounce or two lighter.

My vision has held up pretty well over the years; it’s pretty bad but I think I’m past the worst of it, and it can’t have gotten much worse, since I always spot the letter on the trains approaching before my mates, and can read billboards and road-signs from far away while moving, so I’m curious how extreme of an update will be needed, and just how much more information I’ll be able to now take in! (more information eyes read input parse vision!!!)
