Just days after releasing a statement regarding a ‘recent review and upgrade’ of their ‘security infrastructure,’ comic powerhouse ComiXology is pushing their Submit Starter Pack at SXSW for a mere $10, 97% off the cover price.

In other words, “We’ve compromised your data, now give us your money.”

It’s a sad state of affairs when marketing trumps privacy and security, and there’s no stopping the freight train of promotion and hype. Probably worse than ComiXology’s matter-of-fact press releases are the other blogs that hand-to-mouth whatever press release they’re fed and don’t even mention the recent security breach. That said, I probably plan on picking up the Starter Pack (sale ends tomorrow), because 100 comics for $10 is awesome. But it makes me cringe thinking about how that money will be allocated – security doesn’t seem to be at the top of their agenda:
